PPMA Encourages Industry Participation in 4th Annual Rodent Awareness Week, Oct. 22-28

PPMA aims to educate consumers about the diseases and dangers of rodents

The Professional Pest Management Alliance (PPMA), which serves as the public outreach arm of the National Pest Management Association (NPMA), is working to spread consumer awareness about the health and property threats posed by rodents during Rodent Awareness Week, October 22-28, 2017. Now in its fourth year, this annual, weeklong designation is recognized by Chase’s Calendar of Events and is heavily promoted by PPMA in an effort to inform the public about the implications of having a rodent problem and to advocate the importance of hiring a licensed pest control professional to eliminate infestations.

“Rodents are problematic year-round, but the industry certainly sees an uptick in rodent infestations every fall and winter. We use Rodent Awareness Week to speak directly to consumers as many are unaware that these pests can pass along diseases so easily or that they can reproduce so quickly,” said PPMA Executive Director Cindy Mannes. “It’s our job to get the word out about the importance of contacting a licensed pest control professional if a rodent is spotted in a home, rather than trying to handle the problem with limited success or with hazardous do-it-yourself methods.”

PPMA is leading this initiative with the launch of a consumer media relations campaign and various social media efforts across all @PestWorld pages, but they don’t want to do it alone. Industry members are encouraged to participate by devoting their company social media pages to the topic of rodents throughout the week using the hashtag #RodentAwareness in all posts.

“We want every company to join us during Rodent Awareness Week to spread the word about why professional rodent control is so important,” said Mannes. “Our voice is loud, but the industry can be even louder and make a greater impact if we are all speaking in unison.”

An exclusive toolkit is available for Mainframe subscribers to download on PPMAMainframe.org as a resource for their own publicity efforts. The toolkit contains a customizable press release, suggested social media content, Rodent Awareness Week logos, high resolution photography, media training documents and a list of video content that can be directly embedded on a company’s website.
