December 20, 2018 – FAIRFAX, VA – Last month, industry pest control association leaders representing 34 states met in Denver, Colorado for the National Pest Management Association (NPMA)’s inaugural State Association Leadership Retreat. This event focused on ways to improve market practices and share collaborative ideas between the national and state associations. “We at NPMA, would like to thank the time and commitment made by those who attended our first ever retreat for state association leaders,” said Dominique Stumpf, NPMA CEO.
State leaders heard from featured keynote speaker, Cynthia D’Amour, who presented materials and resources on understanding the value proposition of a trade organization. Attendees spent time working in groups to come up with real world applications on how best to improve marketing practices, enhance their associations online presence and share ideas on how to best engage current and prospective members. Attendees also had the opportunity to learn more about the NPMA Pest Management Foundation, Professional Pest Management Alliance (PPMA), QualityPro and ways in which each of these sister organizations can support and be involved with state pest control associations.
In addition, attendees spent time sharing programs and brainstorming ideas on how to reach the next generation of leaders – the future of the pest management industry. Overall, the consensus of the group was that to be an effective association you should always be planning for the future and continually identifying and recruiting new talent to participate on the Board and Committee’s that set the direction for each association. “It is crucial that our national association works together with the state associations to continually collaborate and ensure we are aiding in the success of our members and industry as a whole,” stated Stumpf. “This valuable forum allowed us to learn from each other as we prepare to grow and succeed in 2019.”
